When I left the corporate world in the ‘80s, I was drawn back to clay. I started with mid-range stoneware. This body of work was inspired by my passion for gardening and the natural world. Mid-range stoneware was my springboard into my career as a professional artist.

Several years ago when I was looking for inspiration in the cold dark depths of winter, I started working in raku. I had worked in raku in college and enjoyed the complete unpredictability of the raku firing process. Working in raku opened a door to a new business opportunity, an interactive demonstration that My husband and I offered primarily at Renaissance Festivals. This was very rewarding however very exhausting. We sold our Renaissance booths and moved on to new things.

I experimented with white Cone 6 stoneware and Soda fired work, this work was functional and was inspired by my Irish roots and our many trips to Ireland. But the winter of 2013 was brutal, and went on into May. I was very uninspired by brown pottery, and came to the conclusion that I simply could not make brown functional pots any longer. Rather than giving up pottery all together, I took my husband Paul’s suggestion, and went to the studio to make things that made me happy.  I started working with bright colored slips and low fire glazes and once again the muse spoke to me.  Paul joined me in the studio and we are now creating this fun new work in red earthenware.
