I chose these glazes to draw out the shape and texture of the piece, as well as have some unpredictability, ensuring each piece has its own original character.

The terms oxidation and reduction refer to how much oxygen is in the kiln's atmosphere while the kiln is firing. An oxidation atmosphere has plenty of oxygen for the fuel to burn. A reduction atmosphere occurs when the amount of available oxygen is reduced. Put simply, I fire my stoneware in an electric kiln.

This stoneware pottery is mid-range, fired to about 2100 degrees F. It is both functional and food safe.

This body of work

is inspired by my Irish roots and my many visits to Ireland. The ancient Irish people, a civilization 500 years older than the Egyptian pyramids, were very tied to nature. The Irish landscape is still dotted with standing stones, stone circles, passage tombs, and ring-forts. These structures are rich with art and complex symbolism. They seemed to call out to a long imbedded part of my DNA.
